TreVon Sams

TreVon Sams was born April 5th,1990 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was the oldest of 3 younger brothers, Malik, LeAnte & Austin along with 2 younger sisters Imani and Morgan. Raised by his mother Debra Mitchell and father Franklin Sams.

TreVon Sams touched many hearts along his way through life. He feel in love with the game of baseball at a young age. Little league ball took  place most at South Omaha Little League where he was coached by his father Franklin Sams. Through many years the teams kept climbing the ranks and were a force to be reckoned with through Omaha.

TreVon continued to play through his teen years at Omaha Central High school. Over the years he earned his position on the varsity team where he mostly patrolled the outfield and was relied on to get on base with executing at the plate. In fact, TreVon was a starter for the Omaha Central varsity baseball team of 2008, which were district winners and the last squad to make it to the Spring State tournament.

With success at the high school ranks TreVon moved on to play collegiate baseball at Southeast Community College in Beatrice. As many know, junior college baseball is a grind. TreVon Sams was known for his great work ethic and drive to want to get better and that helped him with his 2 years in Beatrice on a loaded team. Having success in the outfield and some infield play, TreVon was able to be a great asset to the team both seasons and attained his associates degree as well.

With hard work and determination TreVon was able to receive an opportunity to play at the Division 1 level at the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff. He later achieved attaining his bachelor’s degree and became a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated.

Through his college career TreVon came home and worked with the Omaha Central reserve summer team as an assistant coach to give back to the game. He was apart of a summer legion team that won the area tournament at Werner Park where he led the team from the first base box. It’s amazing to know that his younger brother LeAnte was a starter on that team and deemed a champion as well.

TreVon was a leader for his family and set a great example. All 3 of his younger brothers went on to play sports at the collegiate level and they all can attest to TreVon being a huge impact on that accomplishment. As you can see, TreVon loved the game of baseball and left his legacy. You can ask all of his teammates what they think of TreVon and the answers are all the same. He was a kid who worked as hard as he could. Had the competitive spirit to go to battle with whoever the opposition may have been not scared of a name or school. A teammate who could pick you up even when he was down. He had some fast hands and could really get around on a heater the pitcher was trying to blow by with a sure glove in the outfield, And somehow, someway..could change the dugout with his infectious laughter and smile.

TreVon will always be remembered as a great human, a great ball player, a great son, a great grandson, a great role model to his younger siblings and cousins, and a great leader with such a loving and caring soul. Although, he has moved on to another journey, we can all rest assured that the Baseball Gods have him next to  them watching over us all.
